Getting from London to New York within the hour or staying airborne for five days in a row is closer than we think. Two English companies are currently working on these almost unimaginable goals.

The Airlander 10
The British company „Hybrid Air Vehicles“ is, according to their website, the world leader in hybrid air vehicles and they have created the world’s largest hybrid aircraft. The new aircraft Airlander 10 is bigger than a Boeing 747, can transport 10 tons of cargo, produces less noise and has a lower carbon footprint than virtually any other flying vehicle. Furthermore, this huge aircraft can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h.
The Airlander 10 resembles a giant airship. The company has utilized its innovative technology to combine the best characteristics of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters with lighter-than-air technology to create a new type of hyper-efficient aircraft. Its first successful test flight was in August 2012.

The Lapcat A2
A further British company „Reaction Engines“ is currently working on an aircraft that can reach speeds of approx. 6400 km/h (five times the speed of sound). This breakthrough in aerospace engine technology could mean that it might soon be possible to reach any corner of the globe within just four hours.
